| Walnuts and red
wine – the best guarantee for a long life |
| “Living like God
in France”… Not only would it be rather pleasant, but also healthy!
The French in the southern province of Périgord suffer only
half as much from cardiovascular disease as Americans, for example.
In the science world, this phenomenon is known as the “Périgord
Paradox”. Even though the food there is renowned as the richest
in France, residents do not enjoy playing sports and smoke way
too much, they are apparently living healthier than health and
exercise-obsessed Americans. |

Scientifically
proven |
| A daily portion
of walnuts and a regular glass of red wine will provide the
best guarantee for a long life. The positive effect of walnuts
on the overall cholesterol level and especially the “bad”
cholesterol (LDL) have been proven in several different studies
(1993, Loma Linda University, California). |
| Scientists were
able to clearly prove the connection between the regular consumption
of walnuts and its effective protection from cardiovascular
disease. This can be partly attributed to the high content of
poly unsaturated fats in walnuts and partly to the content of
vitamin E. Whereas, red wine’s health effects can be attributed
to secondary plant material, which has an antioxidant effect
according to medical research and protects the heart vessels.
These ingredients are responsible for defending against free
radicals in human blood. Free radicals are partly responsible
for diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and several forms
of cancer, as well as the general aging process. |

“Living
like God in France…” |
| Long before scientific
research began, the people of Périgord already kept to this
eating lifestyle. For generations, residents there have been
dining on salad with walnut oil and shredded walnut kernels
for dinner: the traditional "Salade Périgourdine". A glass of
red wine is enjoyed leisurely. |
| Americans, too,
treat themselves like that every day, since most of the world’s
walnuts come from California. Thanks to California walnut farmers,
walnuts are now also available in Germany throughout the entire
year. When preparing a simple salad for dinner, just add a handful
of California walnuts to round it off. They can also be enjoyed
as a tempting snack along with a glass of red wine; tastes good
and good for you. Even in this country, you can almost “live
like God in France…” |
