| Dried Plums,
your source to better health! |
| Dried Plums
(Prunes) are healthy! Prunes provide vitamin A, beta-carotene,
mineral nutrients such as magnesium and fiber, in a concentrated
form. Prunes have the highest concentration of antioxidants,
which can delay the aging process. |

In addition, prunes are free
of fat and cholesterol and a delicious way to supply the
body with fibers, vitamins and minerals in order to meet daily
requirements.
Studies have shown that 12 prunes every day
reduce high cholesterol levels in men. A study conducted by
Tufts University in Boston refers to an analysis, called ORAC
(Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), which proves that
fruit and vegetables, eaten regularly, contain a high antioxidant
value. Prunes rank first because they contain more than twice
the antioxidants of other content-rich fruits, such as blueberries
and raisins. |

| Benefits of antioxidants |
| Dr. Nancy Snyderman,
medical correspondent for ABC News, explains that the health
benefits of antioxidants have been clearly documented. This
study gives us all the more reason to eat lots of fruits and
vegetables. Scientists agree that a low-fat diet and regular
consumption of antioxidants clearly reduces the risk of breast
and other cancers. Antioxidants are special components, which
protect cells from destruction by free radicals. They protect
the body by consuming free radicals, which destroy cells and
therefore can lead to heart disease, cancer, eye problems such
as cataracts and other chronic health problems. |
 |
Well known antioxidants are found
in vitamin E, vitamin C and beta-carotene. Thousands of other
properties including flavonoids, which are found in fruit and
vegetables, generate the healthy effect of antioxidants. While
vitamin compounds gain popularity, it is likely with the combination
of other nutrients which can achieve the largest effect. |
| Floyd P. Horn, administrator
for the USDA´s Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville,
Maryland explained: "If these studies are borne out in
further research, young and middle-aged people may be able to
reduce risk of diseases of aging – including senility
– simply by adding high (antioxidant) foods to their diets."
